Vietnam’s Trade Agreements Boost Sourcing Opportunities in 2023

Vietnam’s vibrant economy, in recent years, has become a lucrative hub for international sourcing activities. The nation’s aggressive trade policy in 2023, featuring several significant trade agreements, offers compelling opportunities for international buyers.

In the pivotal year of 2023

Vietnam inked critical trade agreements that have significantly amplified its sourcing potential. Two of these agreements, namely the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), have eased trade restrictions and provided a robust platform for international buyers.

The CPTPP, which includes key markets such as Japan, Canada, and Australia, has reduced tariff barriers significantly. Notably, the CPTPP nations account for nearly 13.5% of the world’s GDP. The agreement has resulted in increased accessibility and affordability of Vietnamese goods, thereby presenting attractive sourcing prospects.

Similarly, the EVFTA has bolstered Vietnam’s trade relations with the European Union, one of the world’s largest single markets. As per the agreement, 71% of the duties on Vietnamese exports to the EU have been eliminated. This change has triggered a surge in demand for Vietnamese products, especially garments, footwear, and agricultural goods.

For international buyers

These agreements have streamlined the sourcing process. With reduced trade restrictions and improved supply chain efficiencies, procuring goods from Vietnam has become more feasible and cost-effective. Furthermore, the trade agreements have diversified the range of Vietnamese products available in the international market.

However, buyers should note that the geopolitical landscape and global trade dynamics are fluid. Staying updated on these changes is vital to optimize sourcing strategies and capitalize on the opportunities presented by Vietnam’s evolving trade policy.

In essence, Vietnam’s 2023 trade agreements offer lucrative sourcing prospects for international buyers. Its vibrant economy, strategic location, and favourable trade policies make it a highly competitive player in the global sourcing landscape.
